It's Shower Art.
Don't eat it.2008 Glitter-Off Championship
I thought I would have a chance since most of my Shower Arts use glitter. I was wrong. Competing in the Glitter-Off was a huge mistake for three reasons:
#1 Rebecca is an artist who has experience with glitter.
#2 Rebecca was recovering from surgery and had huge amounts of free time to devise a plan.
#3 Rebecca is evil.
In the beginning, it was a passing comment during an email exchange about a bARTer Sauce trade -- I don't even remember exactly what -- but something about how we should have some sort of glitter-off competition.
I immediately forgot about it.
But Doug was soon reminded....when he went to get the mail and there was a huge envelope just full of glitter that was getting all over everything.
Well done, Rebecca, well done.
I thought forever about how to get her back but came up with nothing. So I made her a trophy and mailed it to her.
I admit defeat in the 2008 Glitter-Off Championship.
That does not however, mean that I give up my right for revenge.
Now, go watch Rebecca glittering up a pig.
What Are the Republicans Thinking?
New Signs
That's just one -- they all have different sayings on each side.
"If you don't buy art, the terrorists have already won."
"WTF?!"
"art art art art art art art art ART art art art art art"
"I made this sign, you follow it. That's the deal."
"Buying art makes you tough and handsome"
They apparently worked and inspired hoards of folks to visit on First Thursday. It was a good night.
They also inpired a little violence as I got into an altercation with some street youths who kicked over the sign that said "WTF?!" and then stomped up and down on it.
I happened to see them and yelled, "Why would you do that?" -- that's the equivalent of "Keep off my lawn you pesky kids!" in street youth terms.
And the head street youth (the one who kicked it over so the rest could jump up and down on it) said, "It seemed like fun."
What could I say.
He's right.
It did look like fun.
Balderdash is Back
Yes, it does have the word anus in it. Honestly, it might not be for everyone.
Let's begin.
The word:
Piloerection (we pronounced it - Pile o' erection -- I bet you can see where we're gonna go with the definitions)
Our Answers:
1. When a hang glider's wing turn upright for landing.
2. The process for installing pilings under a bridge.
3. The official term for when dough rises.
4. Hair standing on end caused by fright.
5. The name of a phenomenon where atoms spontaneously combine into complex molecules.
6. A large mound of stimulated male sex organs (you knew it would happen, right? I'm just surprised there was only one like this)
Now it's your turn. And if you're lucky you just might win the only tater tot themed greeting card with the word "anus" in it.
CONGRATULATIONS!
And when you're done, check out some Shower Art (waterproof art you can hang in your shower with a suction cup) and bARTer Sauce (my trading experiement for art and odd objects. Trade me something!)
Balderdash -- Round Two
Following are our answers from a hot, sexy evening of playing Balderdash:
Answer 1: Fortune telling by examining animal organs hit by lightning. Asnwer 2: Ron Jame's golf bag (which is a total inside joke and I shouldn't have even included it here, but ....I did...so deal Answer 3: Being and Nothingness. Five stars. Answer 4: No longer spicy Answer 5: A mexican jaw breaker made with tamarind Answer 6: How E.T, the extra terrestrial orders his Thai food, "Exti-spicy, please.....owwwwwwch." What should you do now? Come up with your own answer and post it as a comment here, or here, or here, or here. I'll pick the funniest one and you get a MYSTERY prize! It's a mystery because I can't think of what I want to part with and this gives me the opportunity to decide that you get an old promotional postcard or something lame like that. BUT, don't let that keep you from entering! And, in closing, here's some new Shower Arts:

Here's the Pill:
The One I Wasn't Expecting:
Tim stopped by again. He traded with me once before (Abandoned Artist Sketchbook) and stops by most First Thursdays because he lives in the area. This month he brought me a big, gigantic painting of a pig head. Huge.
Here's the pig:
Here's me and Tim rolling around on it:
Tim got the other Clown painting from Nicolas.
Which is unfortunate because it wasn't until both trades happened that I remembered I was supposed to take pictures of the clown pictures hanging and send them to Nicolas. I did the only thing could do at that point. I took pictures of the empty spaces on the wall where they used to be and told Nicolas he'd just have to trade with The Sauce again.
He agreed.
Phew!
Here's a few Shower Arts from our most recent batch:

What the hell is that?
The Studio Window!
First Thursday Art Walk
It was our first First Thursday Artwalk in the new studio. I'm studio-sharing with the coolest woman ever: www.kimberlyatstir.etsy.com. Doug and I set up a pretty kick-ass Shower Art display for the artwalk and crossed our fingers. Feedback was really positive and while we only sold one item: a starfish to a child who just kept holding it up and saying, "oooohhhhh" we did come home to a $76 Etsy order. That's awesome!
To kick off the night, I invited some of the EtsyRain folks (our Seattle Street Team) over to have some wine and get silly talking about forums and making fun of Carrie complainging about how she "can't keep up with her orders." Ahhhhh, to have that problem! She has the cutest baby ever. I'm probably biased though: he's the baby who demanded that she buy him a Shower Art. HA! I love that kid.
We walked around a bit, visited Kimberly at Stir, went to Occidental park...and then it was all over. Time flew by much faster than I had expected. Next month I'm going to start out much earlier. Thanks to everyone who stopped by. You're such a fun group and I genuinely enjoy your company. Let's do it again soon!
To close, here's some pictures of the most recent batch of Shower Art. We're making them out of rubber now instead of resin so they're squishy and nice and won't make quite such a loud noise if they fall off your shower wall.
The Cutest Thing I've Ever Made
Okay, I've made some cute things in my time...but this one....this is THE one.
I call her CupieHead.
You can call her that too.
The glue that I used to attach the beads to her hair had some kind of chemical reaction with the rubber and now each little bead is surrounded by an air bubble.
I think it's a great unexpected effect.
Huzzah!
I made some more stuffs!
This one is from a Chinese translation book that says that bears are cannibals because they eat people. I showed them!
This one I find hilarious because it's a cow saying "I see butt." What could be funnier than that?
This one I just like because it's pretty. I'm trying to make another one just like it.
"Now He Calls" -- A woman cut in half who can't reach the phone. I think we can all relate.
This one I'm mad about because I put a stupid picture in the middle because I thought I was going to hate the stuff around the edges and I didn't want to ruin something good. Well now I like the stuff around the edges....and not the picture. Sigh.
Ahhhh...The Meaning of Life. The small plaque on the left says: He has great insight into Human nature -- also from the Chinese translation book. This one turned out a little weird on the left hand side -- but oh well. I guess not even the Meaning of Life is perfect.
This one says: Impressive only in appearance and He has only a few books. Teehee. He's dumb.
