San Francisco's Musee Mechanique

Wow. I hesitate to even give you a link to the website because they have terrible carnival music playing in a loop -- but it's sort of like the whole reason I'm writing this blog post so I guess I have to.

Musee Mechanique. Turn off your speakers or mute or something before you visit. Seriously. I have done everything within my power to warn you.

We were in San Francisco for Drupalcon (a nerd convention for those obsessed with open source, database driven, content management systems) and a friend suggested we go to Musee Mechanique to check out some of the antique coin-operated machines. They are awesome, and stunning and some of them hilarious.

Of course anything with monkeys is awesome:

And this guy just looks super crazy dumb

And this weird guy with a huge, ugly screaming baby:

And finally - possibly my favorite part of San Francisco. It appears that someone hates Teatro Zinzani as much as I do. Check out the graffiti right on the front of the Teatro Zinzani building itself:

Snort. Snicker. Giggle.

Laffin Sal & her laugh used to scare my husband so terribly when he was a boy that he wouldn't go near the fun house! I showed this to him just now and he said he didn't want to look! hahaha

MM is one of my favorite spots, having lived in and around SF for many years. In my 30's, I had a regression-freak out moment the first time I saw Laughing Sal at the MM, she had just been acquired for the collection. Didn't know why panic-attack symptoms forced me outside shortly after she began to giggle...until the next day when my mom told me I was at the old Playland at the Beach (where Sal and many other MM things came from) as a 3-yr old and Sal scared the sh*t out of me back then. Our subconscious is really something!

Ha! Wow Lisa -- that is crazy pants! I'll admit, I paid to make Sal laugh....and you really get your money's worth. She goes on and one and on.
